If you have ever had a serious error that you could not fix with your site, then you will be well aware of how important it is to learn how to back up your WordPress Blog.
Some errors can be so bad that you lose everything, and have to start again from scratch. Or you may be the victim of a nasty hacker who has gone out of their way to ruin your site.
Either way this can happen when you least expect it, and if you have a lot of valuable content on your site it can be absolutely devastating. Most people don't know how to fix a website that is not functioning properly, but if you learn how to back up your wordpress blog then you don't need to know what to do.
The method that I am going to teach you allows you to set it up once, and then forget it. You will have your entire website database emailed to you at intervals that you personally choose. On top of that you can easily set it up to both optimize and repair your wordpress database as well. Set it once and then forget it.
If the unthinkable does happen you can always hire someone to fix it as you will have the entire sql database in your email in box, which is all that any decent programmer needs to get your site up and running again.
There are many options available to back up your wordpress blog, and the most common that I have heard of is called BackupBuddy. BackupBuddy is probably a really good piece of software, but it costs money and does not appear to have that much more to offer than the one that I am going to show you, which is free.
Download the WP-DBManager plugin
All you need to do is to download the WP-DBManager plugin by doing a search in the "Plugins", "Add New" menu on the dashboard. Install and activate the plugin and then adjust the settings to your liking.
Once it is installed you will find where it is in the menu of your dashboard and then click on the "DB Options" button. This is the page where you need to make sure that your settings are correct to enable the plugin to successfully back up your files and email them to you.
There are loads of advanced settings with this plugin, but these are only for the people that know what they are doing – and use them for specific purposes. The average WordPress user will only need to modify the settings on the "DB Options" page.
